Dee's first visit to our Sailing Club

Dee Caffari became an inspiration to many people she is the first woman to have sailed single-handed and non-stop around the world in both directions and the only woman to have sailed non-stop around the world three times.

In November 2005 the adventure began and after 6 months at sea alone Dee sailed victoriously back into Southampton on the 21st May 2006, and became the first woman to sail solo, non stop, around the world against the prevailing winds and currents and was awarded an MBE in recognition of her achievement.

Dee during her talk about her adventures - An inspiration to us all - We raised over £1400 towards our new building

At the end of the talk one of our members presented Dee with a Photo of some of our boats sailing on the creek

Dee’s was given the Freedom of the Borough (December 17, 2009) and her talk afterwardand her talk raised funds for the club (£800).

Dee successfully completed the gruelling Vendée Globe Race in 2009, crossing the finish line in 6th place out of an original fleet of 30 competitors. In June of the same year, Dee and an all-female crew went on to smash the mono-hull speed record around Britain and Ireland. Now having completed her third non-stop circumnavigation in the Barcelona World Race, Dee is looking to the future.

Dee aims to compete in the Vendée Globe once again with the intention of securing a podium position
